What to check on a pre-owned Chanel bag
Size changes the price of a Chanel flap more than almost anything else. The Classic Flap runs from Mini and Small through Medium and Jumbo to Maxi, and the 2.55 Reissue uses its own numbered sizes, so compare like with like.
Leather is the next question. Caviar is grained calfskin that resists scratches and holds its shape. Lambskin is softer and smoother, and shows corner rubbing, scuffs and creasing on the flap sooner. Hardware comes in gold-tone, silver-tone and ruthenium, and plating wear on the turn-lock and chain is worth checking on older bags.
Chanel used a serial number sticker inside the bag, usually matched to an authenticity card, until 2021, when it moved to an embedded chip. A newer bag with no sticker is expected. An older bag with a missing or damaged sticker is harder to resell, and the price should reflect it.
